About

Something Different Network was conceived in mid-2006 by Lou Conrad. It's plan has undergone a few changes over the years, but the mission has essentially remained the same: Create content, with a variety of subject matter to appeal to niche and mass markets, that will entertain and inform listeners. You can keep tabs on the evolution of SDN, as it happens, on Lou's blog. Here are some of the questions that Lou often gets asked about SDN:

Do you want to be the next Podshow?
In a word, no. If you absolutely must compare us to another media network, we're more like TWiT. We only carry a small number of shows developed and produced by us. The idea for SDN was partially inspired by TWiT, actually.

Why the heck are you doing this?
Good question, I ask myself that every day. It's probably that I'm a glutton for punishment. Really, I think there are a lot of things that should be talked about, and there are people who have knowledge and talent to do the talking, engage listeners, and facilitate conversation.

And this pays your bills?
That is the eventual goal. Don't worry, though. We don't intend to charge for our shows, but instead support their production through advertising in our programming. If you appreciate what we're doing, though, please consider donating a small amount using the Paypal button in the right column of this site.

Who is everybody?
Please see our Personnel page.

Where'd that snazzy logo come from?
It's the brainchild of Allison J. Isn't it fantastic? You should check her out or buy her something nice.

Why do you sound like you're off your rocker on Uncommon Sense, but you sound so reasonable on other shows?
I am always willing to play the part of Devil's Advocate, and will always strive to poke holes in arguments and bring new issues to the surface. I play a part that serves me very well in the show's format, allowing me to be both energetic and fun, but still get to the heart of issues and discuss problems and solutions in a way that's well-rounded and honest.
